Notorious Poet. Fool. Born in Washington DC. Raised in Southern Maryland, he fled the Chesapeake Bay area as soon as he was able, only to return, after spending years in the desert. He was an editor of The Independent Underground Newspaper, and in 2001, created the Poetry Television Project for public cable access in Albuquerque, NM. Before its demise, Ptv produced eight volumes of its groundbreaking series, helped to launch Unpublished Magazine, sponsored the monthly poetry series, The Word Café, and produced a political compilation, Poetic Democracy. Stavros wrote music for, edited, and directed the award-winning documentary film, Committing Poetry in Times of War. And he hopes that this film will not remain his only public film credit.
As a photographer and graphic designer, you can see his work at Cinepoet & Poet168. As a musician and sound engineer, he makes noise with melody, soothing his soul with the guitar a monk gave him. And despite all the warnings from his high school teachers, he has never stopped tapping out rhythms on his desk. Though now, he inputs them electronically.
The One Blood Series was not something Stavros would’ve ever thought he would write. It came to him in a dream in 1995. Olympia, Washington. An as yet to be introduced character was staring at him, hovering above his face, floating in the air. He was studying impressionistic painting and vampires were the farthest thing from his mind, but he awoke and began to write. Over the following twelve years, he attempted time and again to pen the story that was emerging while figuring out a plausible biology and invent a logical, fact-based history in which any myth could incorporate and any story unfold. After nearly a decade of rewriting the same two chapters, an innocuous break came while in the production of Committing Poetry. Through outlining a series of photoshoots based on the mechanics of the One Blood universe, Lin, Z, and Sarah, were formed. No pictures were ever taken of those photo ideas, but they became the basis of a feature length horror film script entitled, Love in Vein, and a fourteen webisode serial script called Firefly’s Kiss. Blood Junky is Stavros’s first novel and the beginning of Däm’Um: Song of the Vam Pŷr storyline.
